The 6-measure scorecard
The staffing star is six subjects added into one score out of 380.
The hook
#π The report card
You don't get one giant grade for βschool.β You get a grade per subject, and they add up. The staffing star works exactly that way: six measures, summed.
#The real idea
Six measures, 380 points max. Three are about how much nurse time, three are about people staying:
- Total nurse HPRD (max 100) β RN+LPN+CNA hours per resident.
- RN HPRD (max 100) β registered-nurse hours only; scarce and heavily weighted.
- Weekend total nurse HPRD (max 50) β Saturday/Sunday coverage.
- Total nurse turnover (max 50) β share of nursing staff who left (lower = better).
- RN turnover (max 50) β same, for RNs.
- Administrator departures (max 30) β how many times the top boss left in 12 months.
Add the six β total staffing score β star band.
#π Maple Grove example
Its six measures
Total nurse HPRD 3.30 β 40
RN HPRD 0.42 β 30
Weekend HPRD 2.50 β 10
Total turnover 58% β 15
RN turnover 70% β 10
Admin departures 2 β 10
----
total = 115 β 1β
#Remember this
One score, six inputs. You lift a star by moving the cheapest of the six far enough to cross a band β not by pouring hours in blindly.
