Star Guide

What this guide is, and the one idea behind all of it.

The hook

#⭐ The whole game in one sentence

Your building's staffing star is the one rating you can actually move on purpose, every quarter, with decisions that sit inside your own scheduling and payroll. The rest of this guide is just how.

#The real idea

CMS gives every skilled nursing facility (SNF) an overall 1–5 star rating built from three sub-ratings: Health Inspection, Staffing, and Quality Measures (QM). This guide is about Staffing — and only staffing — for three reasons: (1) it's pure math off data your building already reports (no surveyor judgment), (2) it refreshes quarterly, and (3) it punches above its weight, because a 1★ staffing rating drags your whole overall rating down by a star. Staffing is the lever you control. We're going to take it apart piece by piece and then put it to work on a real building.

#🍁 Maple Grove example

The building we’ll follow

We'll follow one building on every page: Maple Grove Care Home, 80 residents, currently 1★ staffing / 115 points. Picture it as yours. By the end of the guide you'll know exactly why it's stuck, and the cheapest path to lift it.

#Remember this

Three stars feed the overall rating; you only move Staffing — but moving it off 1★ lifts the whole rating. That’s the payoff.
